UnderCover Live Band Essex
skaNmash is all about bringing Jamaican rhythms to the digital decks alonside mashups that include rock, punk and indie. A huge love of ska, dancehall, reggae, dub and 2-tone gets a sound-clash with remixes, covers and mashups in the dj set, aimed at challenging what we know and getting the people bouncing and skanking.
The ingredients for this comes from classic legends such as Toots and the Maytals, the Pioneers, Culture, Mikey Dread, Prince Buster, King Tubby, the Mighty Diamonds, the Skatalites, Desmond Dekker, Harry J Allstars, the Heptones, Jimmy Cliff, the Twinkle Brothers, travelling through to Sly & Robbie, Clint Eastwood & General Saint, Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, ASWAD, Max Romeo, Third World, eek-a-mouse, Bob & Damian Marley. You'll then find a filling of the Specials, Madness, the Beat, the Selecter, Bad Manners, the Bodysnatchers and Dexys. It's all topped with today's outlook on these rhythms with a helping of Lee Thompson Ska Orchestra, Gentleman's Dub Club, the Dead 60s, Dreadzone, Dub Pistols, Dreadsquad, Dirty Dubsters, Dr Ring Ding and topped off with a dusting of the Clash, the Ruts, Rancid, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Snuff, the Slackers, the Aggrolites, Bombskare and The Skints.
But it doesn't stop there! We're constantly on the look out for remixes, dj mixes, cover versions and of course mash-ups. You may hear Little Roy's reggae version of Nirvana classics, or Easy Star All Star's classic albums Dub Side of the Moon and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. You're very likely to hear covers from Jimmy Cliff's grammy award winning album Rebirth, Clint Eastwood and General Saint's classic Stop that Train, but also ska versions from the likes of Gossip, Missy Elliot, Cee Lo Green, Deee-Lite, the Beach Boys, Jackson 5 or Bruno Mars.
Hold on! how does this go down with a rock or indie crowd? Surprisingly well is the answer, but mashups help to see it through with Nirvana v Muse, Sabbath v Zeppelin, RHCP v GnR, or even Madonna take on the Pistols!
It's ever changing, its collected from so many decades over not just Jamaica and the UK, but Ireland, Poland, Germany, Japan, US and anywhere capable of creating great skanking tunes. From early 60s to present day, presenting great tracks that stop at the gates of Dubstep, we're not into that I'm afraid, but we can come close.
Best of all, because its purely digital, issues of masses of vinyl or CDs are gone, and if you're already equipped with a PA we can cut down on our time and dramatically cut the cost. So, if you already have a band for a party, you're arranging a festival or function and you want something a bit different, give skaNmash a call. Lets talk, lets skank!
We're presently supporting Undercover at all of their Crown Inn, Roneo Corner gigs, so come down and check out what all the fuss is about.
